Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS)

Lloyd’s Register has been chosen to be the independent auditor of the Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS).

ICATS is owned by the Institute of Corrosion and is operated through Correx Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute. The scheme is a comprehensive structured training scheme for the registration, training and certification of industrial surface preparation and coating operatives.

Companies who wish to apply for ICATS training must register with Correx. After acceptance, nominated employees then attend the ‘Train the Trainer’ course which is run by Argyll Ruane Ltd on behalf of the Institute of Corrosion. On successful completion of the course, these employees are then able to train their own colleagues. Trainers and operatives require re-certification after 3 years and renewal after 9 years.

As the scheme auditors, assessors from Lloyd’s Register visit the accredited companies on an annual basis to ensure that the standard of training by the certified trainers meets requirements.

ICATS is mandated for highways work by the Highways Agency as well as Network Rail and the Environment Agency.

For more details on the course and how to apply, please log on the Institute of Corrosion’s website www.icorr.org
