Lloyd's Register credits Ormandy for offsite best practice

Lloyd's Register EMEA has awarded Ormandy Ltd accreditation to the Buildoffsite Registration Scheme. The certificate was presented at the Buildoffsite breakfast briefing held at the offices of CIRIA, the construction industry research and information association, in London on Tuesday February 2, 2010.

The certificate was presented to Paul Cooper, Managing Director of Ormandy, by Richard Ogden, the Chairman of Buildoffsite. Mr Cooper said: "Our thanks to the Buildoffsite team from Lloyd's Register for the guidance and support both at the gap analysis and assessment stages of the accreditation process." He continued: "As a direct result we have taken a number of positive actions which will benefit the entire business group, not just the offsite activity."

The Buildoffsite Registration Scheme provided by Lloyd's Register is a risk-based scheme designed to benchmark offsite providers against best practice in terms of risk management, configuration management, process control and competency. It serves as a vehicle for the standardisation of best practice within the offsite sector of the construction industry.

Lloyd's Register certifies National Grid Metering

In a move to ensure all its asset management businesses achieve best practice, National Grid Metering has been certified against the BSI Publicly Available Specification 55 (PAS 55-1) in a stringent process of assessment managed by Lloyd’s Register.

National Grid Metering, a subsidiary of National Grid, has been certified to PAS 55. The project started in January 2009 and is for the life cycle management of metering assets owned by National Grid Gas and operated by National Grid Metering Ltd. This certification makes sure achievement of National Grid's corporate and regulatory objectives are met.

National Grid recognised that PAS 55 certification is a means to achieving asset management best practice throughout all its businesses.  The PAS 55 approach is helping the metering business develop better relationships with both its customers and delivery providers alike.

Lloyd’s Register was brought in to carry out a PAS 55 certification assessment at National Grid Metering sites in Solihull and Coventry as well as the assets owned by National Grid Metering at a site in Loughborough. The project involved a verification of their asset management system and its alignment to business objectives. The certification is valid for three years and subject to periodic surveillance visits.

Kate Elleman, National Grid Metering’s Service Lifecycle Manager said, “Achieving PAS 55 certification will assist National Grid Metering with supporting customer focus and delivery capabilities. We will be consulting more with customers and service providers alike to ensure that any asset management decisions are fully explored and understood”. Kate continued “Although it is a little early to realise any cost savings and efficiency, we now realise that our people spend more time thinking through the impacts of asset management decisions which should ensure that potential problems can be avoided in future."

National Grid Metering PAS 55 Presentation

Presentation of the certificate took place during National Grid Metering’s Management Meeting at Rushton Hall Hotel, Northamptonshire on November 26, 2009. Presenting the certificate to Mark Way, Head of Asset Management at National Grid Metering, Peter Staton, Business Manager for Lloyd’s Register’s UK Energy operations said: “National Grid have worked tirelessly to achieve this certification.” Staton continued “This level of commitment not just by National Grid Metering but the National Grid group is testament to focus on how best to manage their metering assets.”

PAS 55 is rapidly becoming the global standard for asset management and this certification reinforces the Lloyd’s Register Group as a world leader in PAS 55 certification in Europe, North America and Asia. Staton said:, “We look forward to continuing to support National Grid through our extensive networks in UK and US in their search for asset management excellence.”
