Gas Industry Registration Scheme (GIRS)
Lloyd's Register operates, on behalf of the UK Gas Transporters, the Gas Industry Registration Scheme.

Under the scheme, Lloyd's Register performs technical assessments of Utility Infrastructure Providers (UIPs), who elect to be assessed for accreditation, for work associated with the construction of new gas infrastructure operating up to 7 barg pressure, in the following scopes:
  • Design
  • Construction/Commissioning/Connections (Routine) [CCCR]
  • Project Management
  • Audit
  • Connections (Non Routine, Basic) [CNRB]
  • Connections (Non Routine, Complex) [CNRC]

The GIRS accreditation mark represents the achievement of a high technical, quality and safety standard and is recognised by all UK Gas Transporters. Accreditation under the scheme will provide the UIP with the following benefits:

  • standardised set of requirements
  • single point of contact
  • accreditation recognised by all UK Gas Transporters
  • the Accreditation Mark, assigned to registered UIPs, will represent the achievement of a high technical, quality and safety standard.

Domestic customers who may be seeking to have work undertaken on their connection should click here to access the request for a quotation form, located on the National Grid website. It should be noted that completion of this form will not result in a quotation from National Grid unless specifically requested.

Lloyd's Register cannot provide quotations neither can it recommend accredited UIPs to undertake connections work, however the list of UIPs accredited to undertake connections work may be accessed by clicking on the link 'for a list of GIRS registered providers' above.
